I CAN'T DO EVERYTHING! AAAGGGHH!!!11@#$@#$#@$@

Journal Entry: Tue Sep 9, 2008, 4:42 PM

I'M ONLY ONE GIRL!!

I'm in one of those phases where I have so many options ahead of me but I don't know which to focus on. I'll bet if I focused on one of my talents and put all my energy into it I'd be successful, but I have no idea which to choose! I reeeeeeally want to start my own business, but that generally takes a little startup money. Selling my art online is hard, it hasn't really paid off so far despite my efforts. Plushies? Commissions? Freelancing? Blogging? Fashion Design? Stickers? Making a game? Interior Design? All these things seem like such good ideas at first but nothing seems to hold my interest for long enough to stay successful.

Sometimes I wish I had one focused interest and talent and I could just do that all the time. But noooooo it has to be a new thing every day!? I start to get interested in a new medium, get good at it and find ways for it to make me money... but then the next day, I get another idea... a better one! I never run out of ideas, I never have "art block"... I just keep getting more and more ideas and I can't keep up!! Aaaaaarrrrghhh!!

There are some ideas that I keep going back to, working on little by little and they develop. I'm glad for that... but right now because I need some steady work it's like all those little ideas and possibilities for what I can do just overwhelm me...!

I just need a real job. God I haaaaaaaaate freelancing because this is how it always makes me feel. My brain is about to shut down. =_=

Ha. You're like DaVinci. But cuter. :B

 stay calm.
those are all very good ideas, and I think that you have the potential and determination to do any one of them.

but think, What would I like doing the most, and for how long would I be interested in doing it?

If you're still totally stuck I'm sorry, I know the feeling you're getting.

I was just about to tell you you were like DaVinci when...I read the first comment. Well...I think you should choose the one that gives you more profit as a job, and keep the others as hobbies. Unfortunately, some human beings don't have enough life to do everything they like and can do....for example, my father should have been something math-related in my opinion, but he is also good at science, philosophy, literature, art and music. Even in politics..but he left all of these as hobbies and he became a lawyer.
I felt this way when I was just graduating and didn't know what to do with my future. *patpat* I think you should take one thing at a time (as much as I hear that, I'm a hypocrite, hah!)

Maybe, you could start two things, and keep it there until it's time to move on to the next thing? I mean, it'll be hard, so if you can get your sweetie to pitch in a bit of time here and there to help out at the sidelines, it'd give you a bit more breathing room!
You're a Jill-of-all-trades just like me (is a Jack-of-all-trades), well I suggest you start doing something, and if you get an idea for something write it down to use it later. Don't be overwhelmed by your own mind, just focus on something for the while and if you can do something else later, it's not like you're going to die tomorrow.
Yeah, no offense intended. owo
I wish you luck. ^^

I noticed two things here:

i) You're amazingly gifted and have great curiosity and drive (when inspired). However you're trying to do everything yourself. Perhaps you can form teams of like-minded people and delegate?

ii) "I just need a real job." Maybe that's the way to go, so you find a sense of stability, and then use that to springboard to your other interests?
I hate admitting it, but I have a similar problem. I have a lot of ideas for various projects, but for whatever reason, I can't get follow through with them. On some, it's due to man power (not enough friends locally to help with making a game for example), being bored, playing a new game (or old one), writing a story (or ACTUALLY finishing some), working on a picture, working on computers (part time business, whenever a call comes), and etc. I'm not sure how to actually give any pointers on how to focus on something, other than finding something you like to do and work on it.

I really can't recommend using a normal job for stability though. I did this recently when I realized part of a childhood dream working at a game store, only to be fired for DOING my job, and doing it well. It probably didn't help that the company was sold to GameStop a month or so after I left, but I digress.
What I'm trying to say is that most jobs today do not truly honor loyalty of the employee to the company, partly due to my experience above. Also, using a job to force some sort of stability in your life is not going to work either. You need to find out, on your own, what things you'd need or like to focus on and develop that trait. Hell, maybe doing something where you come up with new ideas all day could be something you could do.

Now, if only I could take my own advise. :bleh:
mashed potato sculptures are the way of the future.
Aww...
